RAWALPINDI: Seasoned Namibian all-rounder David Wiese shared insightful reflections on the intensity and parity of the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season X despite not featuring in the playing XI that demolished Quetta Gladiators at the Pindi Stadium Sunday.
“PSL X is a battle of equals — it is all about delivering on the day,” says David Wiese. Addressing the media after Lahore Qalandars’ dominant victory, Wiese underscored how closely strong all the teams are this season.
“This year’s PSL seems more competitive than ever. All the teams seem to possess equal strength. It’s not about who looks stronger on paper — it’s about who delivers when it matters the most,” he stated.
Wiese lauded his side’s recent triumph, highlighting the critical role played by Shaheen Shah Afridi, Qalandars’ talismanic captain and pace spearhead.
“Shaheen was exceptional. His early breakthroughs threw Gladiators completely off balance. That kind of impact up front sets the tone. He’s the kind of bowler you can always rely on — resilient, skillful, and mentally strong. Even when he’s not at his best, you know he can bounce back with brilliance at any moment.”
Calling Shaheen the heartbeat of Qalandars’ bowling attack, Wiese emphasized the consistency and class the left-arm pacer brings to the team year after year. “He’s a world-class talent. You simply can’t keep a bowler like him quiet for too long.” When asked about the league as a whole, Wiese didn’t hold back in his praise.
“From a competition standpoint, PSL is right up there as the best in the world. You come here and face elite pace attacks every single game. What makes it even more special is the emergence of raw, fearless talent every season. It’s a league that continuously challenges you.” Wiese also took a moment to applaud Afghan star spinner Rashid Khan, describing his absence as irreplaceable.
“Rashid brings an X-factor. You can’t just replace a spinner of his caliber. He’s been a match-winner, a leader with the ball.” Backing the young guns, Wiese expressed his support for Jahandad Khan, calling for patience and encouragement for the budding pacer.
“He’s got potential. What he needs is consistent support and time to find his rhythm and confidence. With backing, he can grow into something special.” Regarding his own absence from the playing XI, the versatile all-rounder remained as committed as ever to the team’s cause.
“Whether I’m in the playing XI or not, I’m here to serve the team in whatever way is required.
