LAHORE: Former Test cricketer and umpire Nazir Junior passed away here on Thursday. His last rites were performed at 141 Block F Gulshan Ravi, Lahore. Nazir had been severely ill for the past week and was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Lahore.
Nazir played 14 Test matches and 4 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for Pakistan. Nazir was the first spinner from Pakistan to take 7 wickets in his debut Test match. Nazir also served as an umpire in 15 ODI and 5 Test matches.
PCB chairman’s condolence message
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed profound grief over the demise of former national cricketer and umpire Muhammad Nazir Junior. In a message, Chairman PCB extended heartfelt condolence to his family and prayed for their strength during this difficult time. Paying tribute to the late Mr Nazir, Naqvi commended his contributions to the game of cricket, recognising his commitment and services, first as a Test player and then as an umpire.
