ISLAMABAD: Former Senate chairman Mian Raza Rabbani held the federal government as a biggest contributor to the growing political instability in the country and said today three major fronts are open with the media, the legal community and the judiciary as also the Opposition.

“It has unnecessarily opened up new political fronts that could have been avoided if the route of dialogue with stakeholders had been followed while two out of the four pillars of the state are being marginalized by the executive,” he said in a statement on Monday.

Raza Rabbani advised the federal government that it should immediately move to defuse the volatile political situation by immediately inviting the media representatives to a dialogue for amendments in the Peca.

He said the federal government with reference to the judiciary, strictly follows the trichotomy of power envisaged in the Constitution, 1973 and adhere to the Constitution, 1973, in its dealings with this organ of the state.

Rabbani stressed that the federal government also needs to engage with the Opposition. He opined that the perpetuation of the status quo is working to the disadvantage of the federal government. “A convergence of such forces can have severe consequences for the democratic system,” he said.

The former chairman Senate said that the federal government, needs to respond to these issues politically and defuse the situation for political stability, which is much needed not only for the economy but more so for the escalating war against terrorism.
