KARACHI: The Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to urgently appoint a Commissioner Inland Revenue, Zone-II, Corporate Tax Office Karachi.

In a letter addressed to the FBR chairperson, the KTBA referred to an earlier notification under which the Commissioner Inland Revenue (OPS) (Refunds) was assigned additional charge of the Commissioner Inland Revenue, Zone-II, Corporate Tax Office Karachi for a period of three months. The KTBA highlighted that this period has now lapsed, effectively leaving the position vacant.

“The vacancy of this crucial position has led to significant delays in taxpayer services, including the issuance of exemption certificates and other compliance-related matters. The prolonged absence of a designated Commissioner Inland Revenue is causing disruptions and difficulties for taxpayers and tax professionals who rely on the timely processing of their applications and requests,” the tax body said. The KTBA has requested that a permanent appointment be made at the earliest to ensure the smooth functioning of the office and to prevent further inconvenience to taxpayers.
