BEIJING: China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi told his Indian counterpart on Friday that Beijing is willing to work with India to improve bilateral ties.

China and India should respect and trust each other, Wang told Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Johannesburg, according to a statement released by China’s foreign ministry.

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed readiness to work with India to enhance bilateral relations, during a meeting with his Indian counterpart, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, in Johannesburg. According to a statement from China’s foreign ministry, Wang emphasised the need for mutual respect and trust between the two nations.

The Chinese Foreign Minister communicated Beijing’s willingness to work on strengthening the ties with India. The statement from China’s foreign ministry underscored the importance of mutual respect and trust in boosting bilateral relations.

The move comes amid a time of strained relations between the two nations. However, the latest development indicates a potential shift in the diplomatic stance between China and India. The details of the meeting and further plans for improving relations were not disclosed in the statement.

Meanwhile, China´s foreign minister has told his G20 counterparts that a “window for peace” is opening for the Ukraine crisis, days after top US and Russian diplomats met in Saudi Arabia.

“China has noted that calls for peace talks have been rising recently, and a window for peace is opening,” Wang Yi said on Thursday, according to a readout of his speech at the G20 meeting in South Africa published by Beijing´s foreign ministry.
