SWABI: A cleric was shot dead by unidentified assailants while in another incident a man allegedly killed his wife and later allegedly committed suicide here on Sunday.

Unidentified assailants opened fire on Maulana Kashif outside his house in Shewa village, Razaar tehsil of Swabi district, leaving him critically injured.

The wife of the cleric got registered a first information report at the police station. She said her husband was critically injured when unidentified persons fired at him. He succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.

The police said that it was a case of target killing as the family of the victim said the slain man had no enmity.

In a separate incident, a man identified as Tanveer Khan first allegedly shot dead his wife inside a room and later opened fire on himself.

He was shifted to a hospital in a critical condition but succumbed to injuries there. It was learnt that the couple had estranged relations.
