Knife-wielding Afghan dies after being shot by German police

FRANKFURT, Germany: German police shot a 26-year-old Afghan man who threatened them with a knife on Friday near the eastern city of Magdeburg and he died later of his injuries.

Police said in a statement they were called to an apartment block in Schoenebeck, just south of Magdeburg, after the man had threatened a German man of the same age. When the Afghan threatened them with the blade, officers opened fire. The man later died in hospital of his injuries, police in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt said. The reason for the altercation between the two men was not immediately known and police said the investigations was continuing.
