ISLAMABAD: Cricket fever is about to reach its peak as Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season X — the final edition under its current format — starts in spectacular style on Friday night at the newly refurbished Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

The stadium, gleaming with fresh upgrades, is set to host a dazzling opening ceremony at 7:00 PM, which will be followed by the clash between defending champions Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars.

This year’s PSL is not just another tournament — it’s a historic milestone. From next season onward, the PSL is poised to evolve into an expanded eight to nine-team extravaganza, potentially featuring new team owners and a revamped competition structure that promises even more action, drama, and star power.

The current six-team format takes its final bow Friday night, making this edition a nostalgic yet thrilling farewell to an era that transformed Pakistan’s cricketing landscape. Fans and organisers alike are anticipating something truly unforgettable.

“We’ve been counting down the days for months. The excitement is unreal,” said Faisal Suleman, a local cricket enthusiast. “With all the major stadiums now sporting a brand-new look, this season feels like the grandest PSL yet.”

To ensure maximum fan comfort, especially considering the cooler evening temperatures, match timings have been adjusted slightly. While the opening night sees the match begin at 8:30 PM, subsequent fixtures will commence at 8:00 PM sharp.

As the lights blaze and the crowd roars Friday night in Rawalpindi, PSL Season X promises not just cricket, but a celebration — a tribute to a decade of unforgettable moments, and a thrilling prelude to the bold new chapter that lies ahead.

The marquee event PSL X will be played at four venues – Karachi’s National Bank Stadium, Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Multan Cricket Stadium and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The final of the event is scheduled to take place at the Gaddafi Stadium on May 18.

The opening ceremony will feature an array of exciting performances from renowned Sufi music artist Abida Parveen along with a contemporary performance by Young Stunners. The singers of the HBL PSL X anthem song Abrar ul Haq, Ali Zafar, Natasha Baig and Talha Anjum will also perform in the opening ceremony. Fans will also be treated to a spectacular firework display during the event. Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi, Chief Executive Officer PSL Salman Naseer and President HBL (the main sponsors) are expected to deliver brief speeches.
